Project type

Logo Design

Client: Indiana University Dining
Project Type: Promotional Logo
Tools Used: Adobe Illustrator

Overview: The purpose of the logo was created to emphasize weekly and daily dining specials across Indiana University's campus. The goal was to visually communicate the message of casual dining and openness.

Objective:
- Provide promotional messaging that expresses comfort food and casual dining
- Adhering to IU's brand identity
- Expressing the message quick and clear to college students

Design Approach:
This graphic was made to promote daily or weekly food specials for IU Dining. I wanted it to feel warm and inviting, like something you’d see on a chalkboard outside a cozy diner. The textured script font gives it that hand-drawn, homemade feel, while the bold IU red keeps it tied to campus branding. The rectangle behind "Specials" is supposed to be symbolic of a chalkboard similar to specials written in front of a small town dinner. The crossed fork and knife is a universal symbol that it’s all about food, without needing extra words. It’s meant to catch your eye quickly and feel familiar, like comfort food you’re excited to go grab between classes.

Reflection:
I was enthusiastic and passionate about blending both personality and IU branding, as reinforces a message of openness for students on campus. Using both texture, shape, and layout has served a role in shaping the tone for the project. I have sketched multiple versions of thumbnails that helped led me to the final vision. If I were to revisit the design, I’d explore more tactile ways to communicate texture, especially in the background frame and the utensil icons to deepen the cozy, handmade feel.
